Fred S. Gunnerson, Ph.D.
Fred S. Gunnerson, Ph.D., 1995, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Director of Nuclear Engineering, has made a positive impact in his long and distinguished career. His first job after college was on a construction site building two nuclear power plants. This work introduced him to the field of nuclear engineering which led to a master’s and doctoral degree and then teaching and research. During his tenure at University of Central Florida his talents
as an educator were recognized with Teacher of the Year, Researcher of the Year and Advisor of the Year. A strong advocate for education, Fred served as Director of the University of Idaho –Idaho Falls Center for several years before being seconded to the Idaho National Laboratory. He returned to UI after 5 years where he has overseen the growth and development of the nuclear engineering program. He will begin his retirement in August 2010.
Janice K. Stimpson, M.S.
Janice K. Stimpson, M.S., 1971, Extension Professor, Director District IV Cooperative Extension, is a highly respected collaborative researcher and educator. She began her career as an extension educator in Fremont County where she became known for work on state and national committees. She was recently nominated for recognition by her peers in Epsilon Sigma Phi for distinguished service. Her work help set the standard for educating youth on fiscal responsibility. Since 1999, more than 17,000 youth in Idaho have participated in the financial skills training developed by Janice’s group. She has twice served as District Director while continuing to support local 4-H programs and other extension initiatives. She began her retirement in April 2010.
